As re-recording mixer and sound signer based in Paris, I recently worked on the short film Chère Noni. My approach was to create a sound environment that enhances the story and highlights the poetry of the film. My experience allows me to understand how sound design can truly enrich each work!
“For my short film Chère Noni, Benjamin did an exceptional job by bringing true depth to the story with his talent and sound creativity. His artistic sense and sensitivity perfectly complemented the poetry of the film, adding an essential emotional dimension. I highly recommend him for his attentiveness, commitment, and ability to enrich a work with rare authenticity.” – Kim Jiwon
I had the opportunity to edit the sound for an auteur short film shot in Corsica and produced by GREC (Groupe de Recherches et d’Essais Cinématographiques), a company renowned for its commitment to innovative and sensitive cinematic works. My role involved creating a sound atmosphere that was both magical, cold, and dreamlike, in close collaboration with the South Korean director Kim.
To understand and grasp Kim's sonic intentions, I worked alongside her to help her express her emotions and visions, even when words failed her. We recorded a multitude of sounds in nature, thus combining the introduction to sound engineering with her creative process to unlock as many creative thoughts as possible!
This project required three weeks of intensive work, including editing dialogue, ambient sounds, effects, as well as sound design and field recording in Corsica. I truly enjoyed this collaboration with Kim; we were able to blend our artistic sensibilities to bring to life a particularly moving film.
